This week’s topic from the League: Saturday Morning Cartoons!

saturday cartoons

This week’s topic was suggested by Poe Ghostal, so send all complaints his way…

You’ve been hired to program the ultimate Saturday morning experience for kids across the nation–create your own ideal Saturday morning cartoon schedule.

Once you put up a post on your site add a comment below with the URL. Next Monday, I will put up a post here on Cool & Collected with a list of all the contributing blogs. Once that list is posted, if you haven’t already done so, try to incorporate at least three of your fellow League members’ links (but more would be great!) into the article you wrote on your site.

By cross-posting like this, we will help each other out by sending new readers to each other’s sites. Have fun!

(Wondering what the heck this is all about? We’re recruiting for this loose-knit, rag tag crew! Here are the details for joining The League.)

  1. Saturday morning video mixtape…I like it!

  2. Love this! I tried to create an entire week’s worth of all-time programming for UnderScoopFire once, and gave up when I realized how many great shows I would have had to wedge into the 8-10pm slot each night. This is a great topic!

    • I’m going to have a tough time with this one because most of the cartoons I watched have sifted out of my memory banks. I might cheat and just put Thundarr the Barbarian on a continuous loop.

    • I recently re-watched Gargoyles (Disney XD was airing episodes at 4 AM or something) and it was an absolute joy to watch, even better than I remember it being. It’s a show that definitely catered to the older viewer, with incredibly well-plotted arcs that would frequently reference episodes from waaay back. It’s too bad it didn’t find the audience it deserved.

  3. Oh this went way too long, and was really hard to whittle down. In the end I settled on 6 hours of viewing pleasure, and another 5 hours of honorable mentions. I am so weak!

    • I actually felt the need to go back and make some revisions (because I’m like that, I guess) so I could remove the 5 hours of honorable mentions and simply tack on one last hour of viewing pleasure. Now I have one hour dedicated solely to Michael J. Fox (as it should have been in the beginning) and Added Kidd Video to the line-up. I feel… satisfied.

  4. Another fun topic. Could have easily programmed an entire day.

  5. Dammit, each week I plan on taking a break from LEB so I can post a few of my own articles and we keep getting such good subjects I don’t want to take a break.

We did something similar on an earlier episode of Nerd Lunch. I’ll have to think on this.

  6. Can anyone tell me how to post video on to my blog? Thanks.

  7. I had to start my morning extra early to fit all this goodness in!!

  8. A lot harder than I thought, but a lot of fun to put together.

  9. And I’m in. I cheated and wrested the entire Saturday broadcasting day from the networks. So I put in all 24 hours of programming.

    Check it out.
