It pains me to write this. Seriously, I've got a paper cut on the tip of my finger and typing is a bitch... but I digress. This weekend saw the return of the DC Big Flea to Chantilly, Virginia, and I hit it hard, bright and early on Saturday morning. The Flea is really an upscaley antique show that rolls into town every few months, but there's some pop culture gold in there if … [Read more...] about This weekend’s finds at the DC Big Flea
D.C. Big Flea
Hello. Is this thing on? It's been a while since I've been around these parts. It's time to clear away some of the cobwebs -- and would it be possible to get a vacuum cleaner in here? Hello 2014. You haven't been very good so far. Let me just say that I am now intimately familiar with the inner workings of our local hospital, and am on a first name basis with many new people … [Read more...] about So this is 2014?
The D.C. Big Flea Market made another visit to town last weekend, and I had a pretty good day of hunting. Surprisingly, most of the items I found were at booths that had no reason to even have toys -- most of their stock was antique furniture, handbags, glassware -- you get the idea. When I see toys in non-toy booths, two things can happen -- usually the seller has no idea what … [Read more...] about I went a little ape at the Big Flea Market

I had another busy weekend filled with kids' birthday parties and family gatherings, so I visited the Big Flea early on Saturday morning. I usually roll in on Sunday afternoon, but while the crowds were heavy on Saturday, the good stuff was also easier to find. I would pay the admission price just to visit Henry Karp's booth and chat with him about movie posters all day. … [Read more...] about Report from this weekend’s DC Big Flea
Over the weekend, I found myself totally absorbed by the movie, Argo. Rarely, do I find myself enjoying Oscar-winning "Best Pictures," but I have to say that this movie deserves all the accolades it has received. Once the movie ended, I wanted to watch it again right away--it was that good! I intentionally went into this movie fairly cold, without having read too much about … [Read more...] about Argo is the best movie of the year. Period.
I found some truly great items at the Big Flea this past weekend. I went late on Saturday afternoon as the crowds were thinning out and despite the fact that one of my "regular" toy vendors was absent, I managed to find some fun things to add to the collection... I found a few vintage space-themed items, which I will always scoop up, including a "Blast Off" bagatelle … [Read more...] about Vintage finds at the Big Flea this weekend
There aren't many opportunities for vintage toy hunting in this area. We don't really have flea markets or rummage sales like a lot places, and the yard sales can be hit or miss, so I always try to visit the Big Flea when it rolls into town. This weekend, I found a few fun vintage toys... I added another Colorforms set to my collection--this one is an 80's Batman set … [Read more...] about DC Big Flea vintage toy finds
