There's a new con in town: Super Smash Con. I had the pleasure of visiting this event yesterday at the Dulles Expo enter in Chantilly, Virginia, and my eyes were opened to a whole new world -- the underground Super Smash Bros gaming circuit. Okay, so it's not really an underground event, but I like to think of myself as being pretty hip to what's going on in the world of pop … [Read more...] about Super Smash Con 2015

I had the pleasure of attending the LEGO Brickfair once again this past weekend as it returned to the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The displays were just as mind-blowing as in previous shows, and it seemed like the number of vendors selling LEGO goods was bigger than ever before -- I'm not sure yet if that's a good or a bad thing though. By the time the 2016 comes … [Read more...] about LEGO BrickFair 2015
With temperatures clocking in at 100+ degrees, I was once again grateful that the Big Flea is an indoor event. I visited on Sunday afternoon and the crowds were thin, making the aisles seem much wider than usual, which made browsing the booths much more enjoyable! I have been trying to scale back on my collecting focus, trying to buy only items that really fit into my … [Read more...] about Report from the DC Big Flea
Have you checked out the latest Hake's auction catalog yet? The highlight of this particular auction is the Franco Toscanini Superman collection, but even if Superman isn't your thing, there is plenty to rev up your collecting engines! I always set aside a good hour or two to carefully go through the auction, category by category, usually finding items that I normally … [Read more...] about Hake’s Highlights — Top Picks from Auction #215
Once again, Mike Bartley, a friend of Cool & Collected, wrote up an awesome recap of his visit to Pittsburgh’s Steel City Con. It's that time of year again. When the icy grip of winter relents and allows access through the mountainous passes that separate Philadelphia from Pittsburgh, PA. I attended the April 2015 Steel City Comic Con in Monroeville, PA (a Pitt suburb) … [Read more...] about Report from Steel City Con
It was a busy weekend on the collecting front! On Saturday morning, I headed out to the Big Flea to meet up with fellow bloggers from the Toy Box and G.I. Jigsaw to see what pop culture goodies could be found. I called dibs on the Batman items, which worked out great, because now I had two sets of eyes helping spot items I may have missed (thanks, guys!). Loyal visitors to … [Read more...] about Weekend recap — DC Big Flea and a new collection!
Did you feel that? A disturbance in the force of collecting, as if millions of collectors cried out with joy -- Hake's has released their latest auction catalog. Okay, maybe that's a little melodramatic but I actually feel that way when a new Hake's catalog is unveiled online. I feel as if collectors across the globe are simultaneously scrolling through the thousands of items, … [Read more...] about A few of my favorite things — Hake’s auction #214
I've often thought about loading the kids into the family Truckster wagon and hitting the road in an attempt to visit some of the great vintage toy shops and flea markets I read about online. The problem is that I just don't know where they are! Sure, the big ones are on my radar, but I don't really have a concept of their physical locations, so I thought we might be able to … [Read more...] about Introducing the Pop Culture Destination Map for Collectors!
