KONGTOBER 13 — 1976 Jim Beam King Kong Decanter

1976 was a glorious year to be a King Kong fan. Imagine being able to go down to the liquor store and grab one of these guys off the shelf…

Let’s agree to file this one away under the “WTF” tag shall we? I honestly don’t know why I love this thing as much as I do. What is wrong with me!?! King Kong looks like a shirtless frat boy with one hand clutching a shot glass and the other hand resting on his oversized buckle. And that face!

The back of the decanter is concave which allows the container to fit in your hand surprisingly well while you’re slinging one back. This decanter was made for Jim Beam by the Regal China Corporation to commemorate the 1976 film version of King Kong by Dino de Laurentiis starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange.

Now that’s just wrong! (But oh so right.)

“Don’t be alarmed, ladies and gentlemen. Those chains are made of chrome steel.” All month long, I will be showing off King Kong collectibles from my personal collection in a series called KONGTOBER, so if you’re a fan of King Kong and movie monsters, I think you’re going to like what you see.

  2. I actually love old bottles that are shaped like other things. King Kong is the best one I’ve seen by far.

  3. Wow..that looks hideous but I would feature that in my bar…by 2 am I bet its the best looking decanter there!!
