A copy of the first book in the Harry Potter series recently sold at auction for $19,120. Only 200 of these soft cover books were printed in the 1997 press run, so it is rarely seen in the marketplace. This copy included a signed and illustrated card by the author, J. K. Rowling, making it even more attractive to bidders. The highest price paid for another copy of this book (without the signed card) was $10,750.
In June, Heritage Auctions will be sellling a first edition hard bound version of this book, and early estimates have that one going for $30-40,000!
